By decision of the Cluj City Hall, the Water and Sewerage Plants are established, which take over the existing heritage at that time: the source from the "Barnutiului" Garden - approx. 1,700 m3/day; a 140 cubic meter tank in the premises of the "Carolina" Hospital; 4.4 km of water networks, 0.13 km of sewage networks; the city has a population of approx. 35,000 inhabitants.

The sources, reservoirs and networks site opens.
The “Florești” underground spring and a 2,000 m3 reservoir are put into operation. The city of Cluj has 42.3 km of water networks and 20.6 km of sewage networks. Water production is 7,500 m3/day.
The new “Green Cap” catchment front is put into operation in the “Florești” underground spring.
Cluj Water and Sewerage Plants (U.A.C.C) become a public company. The “Grigorescu” Plant is put into operation, a 700 mm section VIANINI type adduction, made of centrifuged reinforced concrete tubes and a new groundwater collection front from Florești – Catchment I.
The city has 160 km of water networks, 79 km of sewerage networks, 6,950 connections, a production of 18,500 m3/day per 116,500 inhabitants.
The Gilău Water Treatment Plant is commissioned. The “Gilău” surface water reservoir is put into operation with approx. 60,000 m3/day and a 1,000 mm section PREMO pipeline, 16.5 km long.
The Cluj Wastewater Treatment Plant is built on the left bank of the Someșul Mic river, downstream from the city. The technological solution includes mechanical and biological treatment by design.
A new 1,400 mm section, 16.5 km long, SENTAB type, Gilău – Cluj pipeline is commissioned.

With the centenary anniversary of the establishment of the Water and Sewage Plants, R.A.J.A.C. Cluj establishes and inaugurates the Water Museum, the only one of its kind in Romania and among the few of its kind in the world.
Commissioning of the 3rd filtration battery at the Gilău Water Treatment Plant.
The 4.9 km long SENTAB pressure balancing pipeline between Garibaldi Bridge and Marasti Square with a section of 1,400 mm is put into operation, improving the water supply to the Aurel Vlaicu South and North, Marasti, Someșeni districts as well as to the town of Gherla and downstream localities. A 2,500 cubic metre reservoir is also put into operation in the Dawn district.
At the Gilău Water Treatment Plant the second stage of the microsite expansion is commissioned. Work begins on the 1,200 mm diameter HOBAS pipeline between Someșul Cald Dam and Gilău Treatment Plant. The Municipal Utilities Development Program Phase II – MUDP II starts.
Section I, 685 m long, of the 2.65 m section of the collector canal is put into operation, built in a shield using mining techniques, at a depth of approx. 10m.
Phase I of the sewerage system extension in Dambul Rotund district – Maramureșului street area – approx. 10 km. The MUDP II is implementing a computerised monitoring system for water networks with radio transmission of status parameters to the Dispatching Centre.
Within the MUDP II programme, the 5,000 m3 Baciu and 10,000 m3 Manastur reservoirs, the rehabilitation of 33.6 km of water network, the rehabilitation and upgrading of Grigorescu, Zorilor, Govora and Clabucet pumping stations, the construction of the Manastur pumping station, the rehabilitation works of over 30 km of sewerage network in the Zorilor district. The 1.200 mm section HOBAS pipeline between Somesul Cald Dam and Gilau Water Treatment Plant and the sewerage network on the streets bordering Corneliu Coposu Street is completed, approx. 9 km
The ISPA Financing Memorandum is signed. The 1,529 m section II of the right bank collector canal of the Somesul Mic river is put into operation and the works for the modernization and upgrading of the Gilau water treatment plant are completed through MUDP II. Metering at building level is completed in the urban area served
The reception of the works of the second stage of rehabilitation, modernization and re-technologization of the Cluj Wastewater Treatment Plant, which becomes one of the most modern in the country. MUDP II programme finalised
Work is starting on the “Transylvanian Plain Water Supply” programme, phase I, and physical progress of more than 5.3 km of the network on the Apahida – Caianu section has been recorded. The area system serves 2 municipalities (Cluj-Napoca and Gherla) and 22 rural localities.
The Regia adopts the Code of Ethics for employees, the first of its kind in public services in Romania. Receives the Operating License from ANRSC; The “Rules of Organization and Operation of the public drinking water supply and sewerage services” are approved. On 17 April the official opening ceremony of the actual works under ISPA, contract C1, takes place. In May, R.A.J.A.C. Cluj won the first place at the 6th edition of Expo Apa – the International Exhibition specialized in the field of water supply, sewerage and wastewater treatment, organized annually by the Romanian Water Association – with the stand “ISPA Cluj Project”.
On 23 December 2004, the Cluj County Council decides to reorganize R.A.J.A.C. Cluj into a joint-stock company, it being initially the sole shareholder.
6 January: the “SOMEȘ” WATER COMPANY S.A. (C.A.S.S.A.) is officially born. On 26 January, by amending the company’s statute, the County Council establishes the new shareholders: the counties of Cluj and Sălaj through the County Councils, respectively the municipalities of Dej, Gherla and Zalău and the towns of Huedin, Cehu Silvaniei, Șimleul Silvaniei and Jibou, through the local councils. On 16 February the Cluj County Council decides to delegate directly the management of the public water supply and sewerage service to the SOMEȘ Water Company. Similar decisions by the other county and local authorities shareholders of the company follow.
1 July – SOMES Water Company effectively becomes (the first) regional operator in Romania serving two counties – Cluj and Sălaj. In August, work begins on the Cluj component of the SAMTID programme.
– In November C.A.S.S.A. is licensed by A.N.R.S.C. as a regional operator. It receives the Diploma of the first place in the “Industry” category “Large Enterprises” in the Top Member Companies of the Cluj Chamber of Commerce.
In November, the new concession contract for the service is signed between the “Regional Association for the Development of Infrastructure in the Somes-Tisa River Basin – ARDIBHST” on behalf of the local authorities shareholders of the company and the SOMES Water Company”.

The European Commission officially approves the major project “Extension and rehabilitation of water and wastewater systems in Cluj-Salaj counties” submitted by SOMES Water Company – CASSA – for co-financing from the European Union Cohesion Funds, amounting to 196.9 million Euro. The SAMTID programme is finalised.

The first construction sites of the major project POS Environment 2008-2015 are opened. On 7 May 2009 the official inauguration ceremony of the Tarnita raw water intake takes place and this 70 Million cubic meters of mountain water reservoir becomes the basic raw water source of the Cluj area system. SOMES Water Company becomes an important producer of green energy with the commissioning of the Tarnita Microhydropower Plant, together with the energy produced from biogas at the treatment plant and the use of solar panels. In recognition of its performance and investments, SOMES Water Company was awarded the “Business Award for Investments and Attracting European Funds” by the Business Faculty of UBB. A new and modern customer service point is opened in the Cluj Chamber of Commerce building. ADI approves the new Service Regulation and the new Contract.
On June 8, 2011, the official ceremony of the completion of the Livada-Dej water supply works takes place, within the framework of the POS, Dejul receives water from Tarnita and the dependence of this city’s water supply on a bankrupt private economic agent is eliminated.
The works contracts under the POS for the modernization and extension of the networks in Zalau, Jibou, Cehu Silvaniei, Dej, Gherla, Huedin, Simleu Silvaniei, the extension of the networks in Cluj-Napoca, the extension and modernization of the regional SCADA are finalized. October saw the final instalment of the EBRD loan under the MUDP II programme. On the occasion of the 120th anniversary of the establishment of the Water and Sewage Works (UAC) officially formed on 8 November 1892, the Water Museum established by the SOMEȘ SA Water Company in 1992 was given the name “Leonida Truță”. In November, the POS Environment Cluj-Salaj project won the Grand Trophy of the “Environment” category at the 4th edition of the European Value Multipliers Gala Northern Transylvania within the Regio Days.
The works at the Hued, Gherla, Dej, Cluj treatment plants, the rehabilitation of the networks and those under the Cluj-Napoca reservoir contract, at the Varsolt treatment plant are completed. Starting March 4, 2013, the SOMES SA Water Company’s dispatching office moved to the new space on SOMES SA str. E.Grigorescu nr. 55. In July, the Global Trade Leaders (GTL) Club selected SOMES Water Company for the International Business Excellence Award. The company receives yet another quality certification, namely for the implementation and maintenance of the food safety management system according to the requirements of the SR EN ISO 22000 :2005 standard.
The funding of Technical Assistance for POIM is approved.
Rehabilitation of the Dn 700/Dn 800 Florești-Grigorescu pipeline within the POS.
The POS Environment and POS Savings programmes are finalised, preparations for the POIM investment programme begin.
Someș Water Company S.A., becomes co-initiator and founding member of the global network of water museums WAMU-NET.
